Operating Sustainably

Our business operations have both direct and indirect impacts on the environment. We are committed to contributing to the improvement of environmental conditions and sustainable development. Programs within this pillar focus on utilizing sustainable materials, waste management, and energy efficiency.

Use of Environmentally Friendly Materials

All material choices impact the environment and society. We are committed to using our resources responsibly to reduce environmental impact and protect ecosystems. We continuously select and innovate materials with lower negative impacts. By choosing appropriate materials for our products and packaging, we hope to accelerate our strategy for sustainable operations.

Waste Management

We recognize the need to address the environmental impact of waste generation across our business and supply chain. We implement a Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle approach to minimize the impact and always encourage our employees to engage in these practices. We also realize that within our value chain in the apparel industry, there is a significant impact due to waste generation, especially in manufacturing and post-consumer activities. We will continue to raise awareness among our stakeholders about sustainable practices to minimize textile waste and its environmental impact.

Energy Efficiency
Efficiency is key to our strategy in reducing unsustainable energy consumption. To this end, we maximize the use of energy-efficient technology, optimize the use and routes of logistics vehicles, and consolidate Head Office Operations activities into one building.

Some measures taken to reduce energy consumption are as follows:
1. Conducting campaigns for electricity efficiency and socializing policies at the Head Office Operations, with provisions requiring employees to turn off all unused electrical equipment, utilize low-energy devices, and maintain discipline in electricity efficiency;
2. Maximizing the use of energy-efficient technology such as LED lights in all stores and Head Office Operations; and
3. Optimizing the use of the Company's vehicles and truck routes to reduce fuel consumption in transporting goods between stores and the Distribution Center.

Other Topics

Climate Change
At Matahari, we are committed to contributing to mitigating the negative impacts of climate change by reducing GHG emissions in our operations. Energy consumption is a major source of GHG emissions in our operations, so we focus our GHG emission reduction initiatives on reducing non-renewable energy consumption.

Some of the initiatives we undertake include implementing electricity efficiency policies, switching to energy-efficient lighting, optimizing logistics vehicle routes, and conducting energy-saving campaigns.

We purchased Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) in 2022, 2023, and 2024, as part of our efforts to adopt renewable energy and to offset some of our scope 2 GHG emissions.

In 2024, we purchased RECs equivalent to 8,400 MWh, sourced from the Cirata Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA). This amount covers electricity consumption at our Head Office Operations, Distribution Center, and 16 stores.

Water Usage
Although our operations do not use a significant amount of water, we recognize the importance of water conservation and are taking initiatives to improve its efficient use. We use clean water for our activities across all our locations: stores, Distribution Centers, and Head Office Operations from the Regional Water Company (PDAM) and groundwater.
